It was supposed to be as glorious as yesterday.
It never got there. I delayed the start of my ride as much as I could, hoping for sunny skies and warmer temperatures, and while I didn’t get rained on, I never saw the sun after all.
Snaps Video Recap None today!
Route You might need to tap or click the map to make it bigger. The red solid route was my intention....
We took the car up to Regenstauf on a very small shopping trip. We headed specifically to Quantum Satis, packaging-free store. They have a LOT of the stuff we use on a daily basis available in bulk. So even though it costs a lot more (compared to the typical grocery store fare), I’d like to start refilling pantry staples from that store, without incurring packaging waste.
Side note: there is another great packaging-free store in downtown Regensburg – Füllgut (which has a nice pun in its name)....
It’s Valentine’s Day, so why not? And I bike to/from it frequently enough. The position of the town lends itself to round trips, whether I’m feeling bergy or flussy.
Today’s route was supposed to trace the Danube back more of the way home, but even before the halfway point at — you guessed it! — Bad Abbach, my feet were hurting from the cold. So at Großprüfening I cut it short....
Snaps I started off crossing the Danube at Kleinprüfening. Notice the water level. This was warning sign #1 and will be important later.
I got all the way up the hill above Eilsbrunn (home of Gaststätte Röhrl, the oldest continuously operating restaurant in the world, according to the Guinness Book of Records. I’ve eaten there a few times. It’s good.) before taking a break. That hill was serious.
Zooming down from there towards Hardt was fun....
Bright sunny day and cold, but not bitterly so. The sun and the activity warmed us up such that a brief stop in the shade (or the wind over the dam) was plenty to cool us down again.
Lots of other people had the same idea – taking advantage of the weather today. Let’s hope that doesn’t result in another Corona spike – the extended lockdown has been working pretty well this time....
